I realized something as I was driving home last night. I had been in Louisville for the week on the job hunt and my wife stayed home to work. She was a wreck. She hates staying in our apartment alone. She couldn’t sleep. She was scared and lonely all week.
I decided to drive home to surprise her. We had talked about me coming home early, but she didn’t think I would. I wasn’t supposed to come home until Monday, but I knew she needed me, and I needed to see her. So I left Louisville last night and rushed home. As I’m speeding down the highway, darting around cars and semis, leaning to the edge of my seat looking forward to seeing my wife and holding her again, I started thinking. This is exactly how it must be for God.
You see before we were saved, we might have thought maybe God would save us. We were a wreck; dead in our sins. But then God, leaning forward to the edge of His seat in anticipation; looking forward to the time He would welcome us home… He saved us. He saved me. And in the same way my wife was surprised to see me home, and even startled for a moment, God bursts in the door and takes hold of us. He doesn’t ask us to meet Him anywhere. He meets us where we are. And He wraps us in His arms.
That’s grace.

Andrew,
This was a very encouraging post.
I am glad you are going to Southern. I am in the midst of interviewing etc with churches right now, so I may be in another city/state, but if I am still in Louisville when you move here we should get together for coffee or something. Anyway you will be very happy you chose Southern!
Drew,
Glad you enjoyed the post. I’ll be moving up next Friday, so maybe I can catch you before you head out of town. What/where are you interviewing for?
Andrew
I have interviewed with a handful of churches, mostly for youth or family pastor type positions. I am most interested in an associate roll at a church that is open to moving more toward a family integrated model of ministry. Nothing has been finalized yet, so I won’t be moving out of Louisville for a while. I will be in Louisville for probably at least another month–so we should definitely get together.
I like your blog–you have some good stuff on here!
I assume you have checked out Said at Southern? If not you should–its a network of SBTS bloggers–www.saidatsouthern.com
Drew,
I haven’t checked out Said at Southern yet, but I will be sure to do that. We close on a condo in Douglass Hills this Friday. I’d love to meet you before you leave the ‘Ville. Maybe I can pick your brain a little bit.
Andrew
Hey Andrew,
I am in town and will be at least for the next two and a half weeks. So email me or something and we can set something up, I would be glad to let you pick my brain about Southern!
